Dyslexia is a learning disability that manifests primarily as a difficulty with written language, particularly with reading and spelling. It is separate and distinct from reading deficiency resulting from other causes, such as a non-neurological deficiency with vision or hearing, of from poor or inadequate reading instruction.
Evidence also suggests that dyslexia results from differences in how the brain processes written and/or spoken language.Although dyslexia is thought to be the result of neurological difference, it is not an intellectual disability. Dyslexia has been diagnosed in people of all levels of intelligence. It is often accompanied by strengths in areas such as creative work, physical co-ordination and empathy with other people. Einstein, Edison & Abhishek Bachhan are proof of this fact! They all had some sort of a learning disability.
Scientists are still researching the condition, but it is thought to occur when there is an imbalance in functioning between the right and left hemispheres of the brain. Learning disability (LD) is a developmental disorder, often hereditary, present from birth, as a silent neurological handicap. There is a glaring discrepancy between the brain’s potential and actual performance of children on the answer paper. Often, the child understands what is taught orally, is able to answer orally, but is not able to express the same on paper, in writing.
The single most significant cause for poor marks of school children is Learning disability (LD). The brain cells controlling reading, writing, spelling, mathematics etc. are deficient in these children leading to a lack of academic skills, but definitely not a lack of intelligence.
